Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}), who suffered a fractured hip during and was pulled up out of the GII Charles Town Classic Apr. 18, returned to the Golden Gate Tapeta track Thursday morning for the first time since returning from his rehab stint at Pegasus Equine Rehabilitation and Training in Washington State.

The 4-year-old, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, came out onto the track at approximately 6:20 a.m. before jogging off in the clockwise direction in the company of a pony. He jogged from the gap at the seven-eighths pole to the six-furlong chute on the backstretch (video).

“It went perfectly,” said Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. “He’s very happy. It seems like he’s happy to be back. “We’re going to go really slowly with him.”

The undefeated champion 2-year-old male of 2013, Shared Belief defeated his elders in last year’s GI TVG Pacific Classic and lost his perfect record after being roughed up at the break of the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic last November. He bounced back to win the GI Malibu S. in his next start, accounted for Horse of the Year California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) in the GII San Antonio S. Feb. 7 and thrashed a strong group in the GI Santa Anita H. Mar. 7. Sensing his mount was not traveling well in the Charles Town Classic, Mike Smith eased Shared Belief out of the race entering the backstretch for the final time.

Campaigned by Jim and Janet Rome’s Jungle Racing LLC, KMN Racing, Jason Litt, Alex Solis II, George Todaro and Hollendorfer, Shared Belief has 10 wins from his 12 starts and earnings of $2,932,200.
